100 % Coworking, Without added sugar!

"Who in this room thought he or she invented the idea of coworking?" A quick burst of laughter arose from the crowd. But then, hands started going up. One after the other.

Let's say that about 50% of Jacob Sayles' listeners had to admit that they were a bit disappointed when they discovered that what they were looking for in their every day working life already existed and that it had a name: Coworking. Bye Bye eternal fame...

The man that I am talking about is a cofounder of Office Nomads, a nearly prehistorical example of a coworking space. Or at least a very early, yet vibrantly alive example. The Venue is The Hub Brussels, the first Belgian coworking space, which was established in 2009. The reason jacob was there: CoworkingEU, the first European convention on the subject.

What struck me about this question and the effect it had on the participants, is the fact that coworking has that 'natural' feel about it. Coworking is so much more like child's play than 'a job'.

I profoundly believe that this is the great power behind coworking: the fact that it resembles the very nature of human beings. We are genetically equipped to work together, to exchange ideas and reflections, to play, to interact.

As a soon never-again-to-be-coworking-virgin, I am looking forward to spend my working days in a natural environment, surrounded by nice people in a nice working space, probably sweating on a job that's a little bit too challenging. That's life...

Oh yes, me too, I raised my hand...
